World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51M watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
